Purpose of hostie.dll:

hostie.dll task purpose and description:

HostIE.dll is a program which would have been installed by you, maybe without you even knowing it. Always double check the disk location, as that will help verify if it is spyware or virus related, or if it is installed in the proper disk location. The file location is shown below. This program is part of the Zango or Seekmo installation, and it runs in your web browser as a BHO. This may also cause popups or advertising to be displayed to you. This is called adware and much information can be found just googling for Zango or Seekmo. If this were on my computer, I would remove this immediately. Its up to you if you want it on your computer or not, but it surely would not be allowed on my pc. This runs as a BHO in your browser. I would also check the add/remove control panel area as they should have an uninstall for this located there, but make sure the entire folder was successfully removed in case their uninstall is not complete. This is a program from 180solutions, and you can find many adware related stories by googling this. (See the details below for the actual location of this file.)

General information:
Be aware that many tasks will be similiar names to existing tasks or processes. You can always view the running tasks on your computer by pressing ctrl-alt-del to view the windows "task manager", and then view the "processes" tab. This will show you all tasks running or currently active on your PC. Although this shows you all running tasks, it does not show dll file thats are loaded, as they get loaded as part of other processes. Many spyware writers attempt to hide their files on your computer, for example, hostie.dll may be intentionally misspelled to look like a similiar task, or spyware may be named very similiar to a Windows system task. The reason they do this is so you cannot easily recognize the name in your tasklist as I have mentioned above. Make sure always check the location of the file if you are concerned. You can always find the location of hostie.dll on your computer by using your Windows search options, but I will also try to list the file location of every file described on this website, so you can verify the correct location.
