Asked by Anonymous - Transfer webhosting elsewhere: Other web hosts are offering much cheaper deals then my current host.  What steps are needed and what downtime is expected if I want my web hosting only moved elsewhere?

Anonymous Says: Easy:  Just signup and pay for your new web host (but might as well wait until your current one is about to expire since you paid for it).  Then you will have a temporary webhost address they will give you, and you can setup FTP to that temp site to get it ready before you transfer.  Then one you have it ready, go to the domain (where ever you have it at the other business) and there will be 2 namservers.  Update those to your new webhost and its done (your new webhost will give you the new name server names to enter).

Anonymous Says: also when you change webhosting, it always says that timing may take 24 to 48 hours, in my experience it has always been immediately.  No down time.  Maybe a decade ago or longer there was downtime for the change, but I've switched hosting multiple times and its always been immediate
