Email Attachment Scam - Make sure you dont become a scam victim!

Dont be a scam victim!

Scam #4 - "Email Attachment Scam"

This is scam where you must open the attachment in email, it could say it has a photo, valuable information, bank information, and other reasons why they want you to open it. This is the #1 way viruses and malware get spread! The email attachment scam virus could be anything, do not EVER open attachments unless you know what you are doing. Just delete the email, as the attachments can contain backdoor trojans, viruses, etc. If you do not know how to identify a photo attachment from a word document or a video, or an executable program, then do NOT open attachments in email. I wont go into how to identify stuff like this, just warning you that viruses and malware are spread this way and its the #1 way they hope to get something on YOUR computer as they need your help and lack of common sense to do so. Many may also say they are photos which make you think its safe, but when you click it you find out it was not really a photo or video.

The bottom line is simple. You can avoid almost all these types of scams by using common sense. If you think you may be getting scammed, you probably are.

Just follow 4 simple rules and you can avoid most scam attempts online:

  • If you get a check or money order over the internet, always confirm 4 to 5 days later by calling your bank to confirm any check or money order has "cleared" before sending any product. The bank will always tell you if it has cleared, wait for that.
  • Never wire money over the internet to someone ever. It doesn't matter what their excuse is, dont do it.
  • Don't open email attachments. This is how they spread viruses. Its easily faked, and easily can have embedded malware and viruses.
  • Never click website links in email. EVER. Use your bookmarks to go to bank websites, etc. (Email links are easily faked, so make it a rule!)
