File purpose and description:
IETie.dll is software program that is used by various different software programs, so this name is used various different ways. Be aware that it is part of ghostsurf and also part of a known adware supplier called clearsearch. If you have ever seen your browser go to the clearsearch site, they you may have this on your pc and may want it removed. If you have ghostsurf, this file may be ok as this is a name they use. The best way to identify this or what you have, is to pay attention to your browsing as you will know if your search is taking you to the clearsearch site (clrsch.com or clear-search.com, various names), or displaying popup ads to you (I assume if you have the clearsearch adware then you didn't install this or want this on your pc). Clearsearch will also hijack your web browser settings. (See the details below for the actual location of this file.)
Actual file or task name:
ietie.dll
File type:
This is a called DLL module
File or folder location:
This ghostsurf file will be found at: C:\WINDOWS\system32\IETie.dll Note this could be overlayed by spyware or adware.
General information:
Be aware that many tasks will be similiar names to existing tasks or processes.
You can always view the running tasks on your computer by pressing ctrl-alt-del to view the windows
"task manager", and then view the "processes" tab. This will show you all tasks running or currently active
on your PC. Although this shows you all running tasks, it does not show dll file thats are loaded, as they
get loaded as part of other processes. Many spyware writers attempt to hide their files
on your computer, for example, ietie.dll may be intentionally misspelled to look like a similiar task, or spyware may be named very
similiar to a Windows system task. The reason they do this is so you cannot easily recognize the name in your tasklist
as I have mentioned above. Make sure always check the location of the file if you are concerned.
You can always find the location of ietie.dll on your computer by using your Windows search options, but
I will also try to list the file location of every file described on this website, so you can verify the correct location. You can view the entire tasklist directory with the link below.
