Sprained Wrist. Fell and landed on wrists.

Asked by Anonymous - Sprained Wrist. Fell and landed on wrists.:
This is really painfull, I fell and instinctively put my arms out to catch the fall and both wrists are swollen and sore.  I dont think anything is broken.  How long should I ice sprained wrists like this?  I didnt go to doctor since I dont think they can do anything to fix it.

Try to ice your wrists for 15 minutes and do it several times in the day, let it rest in between those times.  You can also buy those wrist braces at walgreens or cvs, those work well to hold the wrist steady especially when sleeping.  Take ibuprofen for pain reliever will help sleep and help with the swelling.

It could take weeks or months for sprained wrists to heal depending on how bad you hurt it, so dont assume its going to be quick.  Do not do anything to hurt it more, you must let it fully heal.

A good way to ice sprained wrist is to use a package of frozen peas (or other frozen veggie bags I guess would also work).  Its ice cold and with form around wrist area, then just refreeze and use again later.

if you fell and landed in the push up position and your wrists are swollen several days and have bruising or discoloration, you bet go to doctor and get it checked out.  You need to get it xray'd

I have bruising down the back of the hand and its been 5 days.  How long does the bruising stay?  I'm guessing this isnt good.

I cracked a couple bones on the outside part of my wrist and I had bruising all the way down my 2 outside fingers.  I forget how long it was there but I remember it being around 10 days so its not going away quickly.  Its actually starts purple or black but then eventually goes to yellow for few days before disappearing completely
