Ipod - Solid Red Light When Charging

Hi I turned on my ipod this morning but there was no light at all. Assuming it was dead, I plugged it into a charger, it is now showing a solid red light (not blinking). When I unplug it, it shows no light at all. It has been plugged in for about 2 hours now. Any suggestions as to what is happening will be gratefully received.

I would leave it plugged in, a red light means its a really low charge so you need to leave it plugged in alot longer. It should eventually turn to a solid orange from solid red light, then eventually green meaning its fully charged.
