Guest Says: You will need the modem manual if you dont have it. This varies depending upon the modem. First you need to connect your modem to the computer and view your modem by opening your browser and put in 198.162.1.1 or some modems like Zoom are 10.0.0.2 .... either way you need to check your manual and see or try those 2 to see if your modem windows appear. You then need your modem or router password (most modems are now router and modem in the same). This will be in the manual also and go into your router and put in your DSL user id and network password, your DSL service will give you this, its a specific network password to allow your modem to use their DSL.   Once that is setup, for wireless security then just put a password in under wireless settings, usually that generates a code on the screen that you then enter in your laptop or ipad or iphone .... so they can access the router wirelessly with that code.  Don't lose it.

Guest Says: You probably want to also browse other settings there to under wireless, like enable wireless connectivity, wep-64 for the encryption, etc.  Also change the SSID name so its not obvious what the router name is, just put some fake name there that your wireless connection will show up as.

Guest Says: One other thing that people should be aware of too is that your router also will have a vci or vpi entry possibly. These numbers entered should be given by your dsl company. For example the vci may be 8 and vpi 35 , usually they need a number assigned and cannot be 0.
