my PC goes through the strt up procuduere and as it starts to log in a pop up appears and says insufficient memory and clicks of and powers down. Any ideas anyone??

That sounds like you might have a bad memory chip.  Try removing the memory chips 1 by 1, or swapping them, and rebooting multiple times every time you take 1 memory chip out.  If it boots up, the memory chip is bad that you have out.
