Windows Was Not Able To Format The Disc

Main Question - Posted From Guest:
what does this mean? Everytime I put a CD or DVD into my DVD writer (CD writer also dual) it gives me this msg "windows was not able to format the disc". I'm not sure if this is an error or what causes this, I've cleaned the DVD and tried again (also tried it with CD and the error msg was the same).

if you tried a different CD and it didn't work (and you said you tried both a dvd and cd), then I would just power down the computer and reboot. Make sure you "power down", and leave the copmuter off for about 15 seconds then start it again. Thats different then just rebooting. If it still gives you the error then its possible the dvd burner has worn out, but that would be rare, you would need to burn thousands of CDs or DVDs for that to happen, I actually wore out one but I burned a TON of CDs before that happened and that was over the course of years.
