Main Question - Posted From Guest:
I have a ton of passwords like everyone else, what is the best way to secure these and make sure no identity theft occurs or passwords stolen, etc? I read your password site and think the ideas listed there are very good by the way, and think that its critical to use different passwords for every site, especially bank or brokerage and financial related websites. I do try to keep passwords secure but there are so many of them

Security is to critical to take lightly. I will tell you exactly what I do. First off I use a password manager like Password Maintenance (available here: http://www.softdd.com/password-manager/index.htm ) It allows you to store data on thumb drives or memory cards, so it isn't stored on your computer. As some of my tips state and as you stated, every password I store is different (so if someone knew one of your passwords they would only have access to one site and not all) and everyone of them starts with a 3 digit PIN number that I never forget and never list ANYWHERE. The passwords are all different but my pin is the same, but you would have to know my pin to type on the start of my passwords (or you could put at the end, etc., but only you would know that even exists), otherwise even if you had my password list you would wonder why none of them work. Even if you had a keystroke recorder it would not help you, as part of the password is always pasted in and part of it (pin) typed in! On top of that I store the data on a thumb drive so its not on my computer, and I use an encryption phrase. Even if I handed the thumb drive to 100 people, my passwords would still be safe, and even if I had a keystroke recorder running on my computer, the stolen passwords would still not work. Nothing is 100% of course, but this makes it so it isn't easy by any means. It would be a tremendous hassle for anyone to figure out the passwords, and unless its the FBI after you, I don't think anyone else would care to to spend that much time on you :-)
