Main Question - Posted From Becca:
Hi, I am an aol webmail user and have received several emails from my own address containing an advertisement and link - obviously fake, but if they are sending them to people in my address book as well (they are NOT in my sent items) then that puts family and friends at risk - how can I a) report them to AOL and b) stop the emails from going out and c) let my family and friends know that my emails are safe? Thanks!

Guest Says:
not going to happen, you have no way of stopping it

Guest Says:
aol or any other email service has nothing to do with this, they aren't even using those email services to send the fake emails, the fake emails are just using your name .... doesn't mean its even coming from that service so reporting it will be useless as its not their problem

Is there a way to stop fake emails from being sent from my name?  I see this often but no emails are in my outbox, so its not really sent from my email but looks like its coming from my email when friends are receiving it

Guys there is a way, It works trust me, I hate to say it on here because im scared that scammers would find a way around it. But I have a way honest it works great and takes a sec to do, let me think how i can get the info to you without the hackers reading it.....

Guest Says:
It has nothing to do with hackers, anyone can just run a program to send mails like this, its pretty simple.

Someone is using this: monte.ikner43@bodafone.it
to send a web site to my contacts. That is my name, but not my email address. What do you suggest?

You cant really stop anyone from using your email, you can setup spam filter to allow only those in your list to email you (which is what I do with my aol webmail, that way it is zero spam).

Guest Says:
Spammers can send fake emails making it look like it came from you, but even if its obviously spam just tell people not to ever click links or strange emails. Just educating people on this is the best way because spammers can hack email servers and send emails to your contacts and make it look likes emails are coming from you to your contacts.

With webmail today and everything stored outside of your computer, this what viruses used to do years ago when they ran on your computer.
