The good news here is this is really easy. Camcorders either have a usb or firewire connection, don't get confused, its just a plugin from your camcorder to your computer. The firewire is the small squarish plugin the size of a pencil eraser or so, while the usb is a narrow rectangular, half inch long plugin. Look at the connections and you will have one of these 2 on your camcorder. Just plug it in and open windows movie maker, its already on your vista computer, this software allows you to upload and edit video, its very powerfull and you do not need to buy any new software to convert the video to your computer. Turn on your camcorder also, then you will see options in windows movie maker to import or upload your video. You can then edit the video or just save the entire video, it saves it into WMV format and you can either make small video clips or a large video clip of the entire tape. I would recommend choosing 640x480 on the size (it will ask you) and then 30fps, that will give you good quality versus size.
