Main Question - Posted From Guest:
My original file is 213 length having millions of records. one field is XREF-PRICE which is PIC 9(5)V9(4) COMP-3. I want to increase this field to PIC 9(9)V9(9) COMP-3. So file length will be increased to 218. I want copy the old file to new file. What I should use in INREC or OUTREC ? any other process to copy to the new lenght file..

It depends how you want to do it, you can use a cobol program, which would be simple to do, or a jcl sort or dfsort, which I would surely try first since it would be quicker. You could just use outrec and write the hex values before your value, and then hex values after it (since your new data field is larger then the old data field) ... and you are therefore padding the field. THats the first thing I would try.
