Forced S0c7

Main Question - Posted From Guest:
When I was working on production systems, we had code that forced a S0C7 abend. If we found data that would not cause a crash but was obviously incorrect (unsorted input files was a good example) we would use Data Division redefines to make this happen. We executed an instruction like MOVE WS-DUMPER TO WS-DUMPIT. This would stop the job before any damage was done. The operators had operating instructions for each production suite, and S0C7 abends in production a) caused them to call the on call programmer, and b) the first thing the programmer did on a S0C7 was check the operating instructions. S0C7 should not happen in production - if it does, there was usually a note in the operating instructions that said "Forced S0C7 on unsorted master DDNAME ...." S0C7 can be your friend

Why not just execute a cics abend command?
