Looking at buying new glasses, what rea cr39 lenses? Are those better or worse then plastic or is cr39 plastic?
JJ Says:
CR39 is a type of lens, I just bought a new pair of glasses so I know a little of the research I did on this. the bottom line is CR39 is a plastic type of lens that is much thinner then glass and other types. So basically if your glasses are thick, changing to CR39 will make them alot thinner and lighter. This is an option I would surely choose. They are abrasion resistant lenses also, but they can scratch. the trade off on how light and thinner they are is well worth it imo.

cr39 is not good sports glasses though since they can shatter.
Dan Says:
Actually cr39 lenese are just the opposite! They are shatterproof, they can scratch but they do not shatter! Very good lenses for kids, etc. The main benefit with cr39 glasses is that the glasses are so much lighter due to the lenses being so much thinner. If you have a high prescription, which normally means thicker lenses, then cr39 is great and more comfortalbe and lighter to wear.

I ordered cr39 on goggles4u.com and I am really impressed, very thin lenses and I got the prescription sunglasses so they are permanently tinted. By the way for those of you looking for lenses and frames, get them online, its wayyyy cheaper and it shows you how much markup places like lenscrafters charges. The site above is good but there are also many other places to order glasses.
